The estate is located in the macro region of the Pico da Bandeira (highest point in the Southeast Brazilian region). It is a mountain region having a unique scenery and nature landscape.
The Cachoeira Alta project possesses 550 hectares (1360 acres) of land, 35% of which is devoted to the protection of the environment. Accordingly there are 50 hectares of intact natural forest and vegetation protection around water mines. 150 hectares (370 acres) of land are dedicated to environmental protection.
As usual within BSCA´s farms there is agronomist supervision and due to high soil fertility and adequate management philosophy productivity ranks top in the country as much as 14,5 bags per acre without irrigation.
The following principles are key concerns and commitments:
- Sustainability of water mines and nature in general
- Plantations in continuous ditches and in level curves for erosion control
- Mechanic control priority with incorporation to the soil
- Agronomist prescription based on soil analyses for all products used in the plantations. Cachoeira Alta farm has turned decisively to organic conduction, change that occurred since September 2004.
- Keeping all installations permanently in rigorous cleanliness condition is a key issue to the farm
- Coffee storage with total hygiene and alimentary safety conditions
- Emphasis on employees' training
- Continuous equipment maintenance
- Product traceability through a computerized system
- Respect to the labor legislation and total prohibition of the children work
Cachoeira Alta Farm has initiated its social project program, which is teaching grown people to read, in association with the municipality and Banco do Brasil.
