Historical Notes

The Cachoeira Alta coffee farm Project is located in Lajinha a municipality within the mountain region of Minas Gerais state in Brazil. Cachoeira Alta farm foundation occurred in 1970 when Dr. Moacyr Lima a retired surgeon and former general of the Brazilian Army started an Arabian Coffee plantation. Varieties used then were Bourbon and Mundo Novo.

Dr. Moacyr had an important social presence in the community being one of the founders of the local Cooperative of Coffee Producers and surgeon director of the local hospital. Since then the family has been devoted to the production of superior brand coffees.

Moacir Lima Jr. soon of the founder started in 1977 a Catuaí brand coffee plantation. Today Moacir Jr. with partners conducts the Cachoeira Alta project with 1.4 millions of coffee threes having the full sustainable philosophy as guideline.

Very important is to say that accordingly with this philosophy since September 2004 Cachoeira Alta Coffee Farm abolished the use of chemical defensives, meaning that only natural products have been used since then. It is planned start in 2005 the local production for all nutrition needs of the plantations.
